Rooted in Authenticity: Paul Mitchell® Schools' Angus Mitchell Memorial Scholarship

In 1980, friends Paul Mitchell and John Paul DeJoria launched a revolutionary hair care brand with just $700 and three products: Shampoo One®, Shampoo Two®, and The Conditioner®. Their mission was to support hairdressers with affordable, luxury products. Today, Paul Mitchell is the largest independent professional hair care brand and has been serving the needs of hairdressers for 45 years. As a pioneer in cruelty-free hair care with a strong commitment to giving back, Paul Mitchell offers salon-quality hair care, hair color, and styling tools that help salon professionals thrive.

 Paul and John Paul built a team of top stylists and educators, including motivational speaker Winn Claybaugh, whose philosophy helped shape the culture of Paul Mitchell® Schools and inspired a new generation of beauty professionals. In 2000, Winn, John Paul, and Paul’s son Angus Mitchell opened the first Paul Mitchell School. The network has exceeded over 100 locations. Angus Mitchell said stepping into the family business was a natural path: “Through artistic inspiration and education, I help reignite passion for our industry. This career has shown me I’m exactly where I’m meant to be.” This scholarship offering is provided in memory of the late Angus Mitchell and is made possible by Paul Mitchell Schools’ participation in the 2024 Beauty Changes Lives “One Day. One Ticket. fundraising initiative.

Applicant Qualifications 

Rooted in Authenticity: Paul Mitchell® Schools' Angus Mitchell Memorial Scholarship will be offered to students enrolled or accepted in a professional beauty program at any of the Paul Mitchell® Schools in the U.S. 

• Must be a new or currently enrolled student in a cosmetology, barbering, esthetics, or nail technology program at a Paul Mitchell® School within the U.S.
• The applicant must be eighteen (18) years of age or older by the start date of the program.
• Family members of JPMS, Paul Mitchell® Schools or the Franchisor are not eligible for this scholarship. Past      winners of JPMS Scholarships cannot apply.

Application Requirements

1. Complete online application and submit proof of enrollment from a Paul Mitchell® Schools by uploading your: enrollment agreement, progress report, or official acceptance letter from a Paul Mitchell® School.
2. Submit a 3-minute maximum, YouTube video with a public link answering the following questions:

• Angus once said, “Through artistic inspiration and education, I help to inspire and motivate others to join or reignite the passion they have for our company and the professional beauty industry.” How do you hope to inspire others once you are licensed?
• What does authenticity mean to you, and how do you stay true to yourself while pursuing a career in beauty?
• Describe a challenge you've faced that tested your confidence or direction and supported the decision to choose beauty as a career.
